Navigating the wilds through PAINT
Hello! If you have just arrived for the first time, I am Caroline, it’s lovely to see you here, thank you for stopping by!
I have been creating art for over 25 years, mainly with oil paint, but also with pastel, collage, and traditional drawing materials - and more recently watercolour. I started drawing and painting (human) figures even before I started pursuing a BFA in 1997. I still paint human figures and portraits, but have since added (anthropomorphic) animals, as well as exploring vintage photo inspired collage, abstract painting, as well as seascapes, skyscapes, and landscapes. I tend not to restrict myself with traditional expectations of art making practices such as becoming stylistic overtime (sticking to one or two subjects and one or two mediums). I am ever exploring and evolving and I tend to have a symbiotic approach to my art making practice as well. As Louise Bourgeois has said “there are many realities” as well as I am not what I am, I am what I do with my hands, and this has translated and influenced my work in the way of wide and varied series of works. It is something I have had to come and accept about myself. If you follow me on social media, you will see me swinging back and forth between subjects, as I honour my inner compass and create exactly where I am. I create art as a way of exploring and cultivating curiosity (in myself and the viewer), navigating human behaviour + culture, and naturally, processing personal experiences (both dark + wondrous). Art was a calling that saved me early in my life from a dysfunctional environment and became a predominant tool I’ve used ever since to continually hone my resilience and make sense of this journey we call life. Expression is essential to human life and keeping imagination and possibility alive in both myself and the viewer is my intention. My work is informed in varying degrees by mythical narrative, psychology theory + human behaviour/nature (especially the deeply hid inner crevices that help accentuate light more accurately), wild nature (creepy crawlies + butterflies alike), and my cat - who understands how to live in artful balance. I am a left-brained heARTist creating art for my wild heart and yours.

My logo is inspired by the feathers and moon gleaned from the Nevin Family crest, the paternal side of my family, whilst the Fox personifies the maternal side of my biological family, which is quite literally, ‘Fox’.
