Creativity is my compass…
Hello! I’m Caroline. Thank you for stopping by!
I have been creating art for over 25 years, mainly with oil paint, but also with pastel, collage, and traditional drawing materials - and more recently watercolour. I started drawing and painting (human) figures even before I started pursuing a BFA in 1997 (completed in 2001). I still paint human figures and portraits but have since added (anthropomorphic) animals, as well as exploring vintage photo-inspired collages, abstract painting, as well as seascapes, skyscapes, and landscapes. I tend not to restrict myself to traditional expectations of art-making practices such as becoming stylistic over time (sticking to one or two subjects and one or two mediums). I am ever exploring and evolving and tend to have a symbiotic approach to my art-making practice. As Louise Bourgeois said “there are many realities” and “I am not what I am, I am what I do with my hands”, and this has translated and influenced my work in a wide and varied series of works. It is something I embrace, working with presence and process. If you follow me on social media, you will see me swinging back and forth between subjects, as I honour my inner compass and create precisely where I am. I create art as a way of exploring and cultivating curiosity (in myself and the viewer), navigating human behaviour + culture; processing personal experiences (dark, beautiful, and wondrous). Art was a calling that saved me early in my life and became a predominant tool I’ve used ever since to continually hone my resilience and make sense of this journey we call life. Expression is essential to human life and keeping imagination and possibility alive in both myself and the viewer is my intention. My work is informed in varying degrees by mythical and narrative psychology, human behaviour/nature (especially the deeply hidden inner crevices that help accentuate light more accurately), wild nature (creepy crawlies + butterflies alike), and yes, even my cat - who understands how to live in artful balance by seeking out open sunbeams and hidden pockets, while at other times discovering playful possibility in seemingly banal objects and at any time he chooses.
I invite you to join me on my journey and sign up for the Caroline in the studio: Musings + Offerings newsletter subscription. You'll get access to special sale promotions only for newsletter subscribers, art fairs and shows I participate in. You can join way down at the bottom of this page!

My logo is inspired by the feathers and moon gleaned from the Nevin Family Coat of Arms and Family Crest, the paternal side of my family, whilst the Fox personifies the surname of the maternal side of my biological family, which is quite literally, ‘Fox’.
